In class on friday, Mr. Strong had shown us some pictures of various arts. One of the photos shown caught my eye because of the many colors in the work. As I looked at the art, many things came to my mind. The way the colors when can represent numerous things, to me my first thought was: it reminds me of our life span, dark to light back to dark in relation to our dependance to independance back to dependance. As a child you are very dependant on your parents, you need them to do everything for you. As you get into your toddler and child years you gradually get more independant. As you get old the more independant you get, but yet eventually you start having to become more dependant on your family or different agencies to care for you as you age.
As for the urinal, that work at first site, I thought Who would take a picture like that, but once I got past the obvious there was a hidden beauty. This beauty, to me, waas not the object in the work, but the color variations from black to white. Even though I wouldn't have thought of a picture of a tiolet would be beautiful before, When the audience looks past the subject, they can find many beauties of the work.
If there was anything I have learned in my drawing class, it was how to distort an image. When you turn a picture upside down or turn it side ways what the work is and what it looks like is changed, your not used to seeing the object in that way. I have found that not only does this help an artist draw thier picture of an obvious shape, it also can help the audience to not see the subject of the work as what in real life it is. You can get past the subject and and make it into something more "artsy" and not look so much like for example, a tiolet.

I'm curious what it is about certain colors that you associate with (in)dependence? I'm also curious what you mean when you say something can be "more 'artsy.'"
